A Short Overview of Our Foundation The Orphan Foundation's mission is to find loving homes for the 163 million orphans around the world. If you change the life of one child, you'll change that child's world. If you help us change the life of many children, you'll change our world. Background on Our Foundation We are a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation, and our programs range from providing financial grants to low and middle-income adopting families, to a host of other volunteer services. We are all volunteers who are trying to make a difference in the life of a child. What does that mean to you? Simply that nearly 100% of your contributions are used for our mission. We don't do big advertising campaigns with the donations you give us. We don't employ a staff of people to handle your telephone calls. And we don't pay for lavish offices. We simply do what we think all non-profits should do: help the people we were chartered and founded to help. For us, that's orphans who have become lost to the world in orphanages and foster group homes - or whatever else we choose to call an "orphanage" these days. 143 million children are officially classified as "orphans" today. They live in orphanages and foster care group homes. Those statistics are according to UNICEF. Another 20 million children are in the classification of "displaced children." These are children that are not in any institution. In Eastern Europe, less than 50% of the children will live to their 21st birthdays. In African countries, there's a concerted effort to keep children alive past their 5th birthdays. Orphans are used to fight wars, and if they were unfortunate enough to be a child born with Down Syndrome, in some countries they have bombs strapped to their chests and used by terrorist organizations as a human bomb. This 163,000,000 population is the equivalent of the 7th largest nation in the world. Now imagine the impact on our world by simply studying the statistics: The Orphan Crisis. We need your help.
